Wildlife Photography.

Capturing the beauty of our wildlife on this mysterious planet we call Earth. Daniell explores the wide outdoors, shooting excellent imagery, and learning about the amazing animals that share the world with us.

How we started the project.

Daniell approached us after hearing about our services from a friend of ours. He told us that he had built his current website which did the job starting off, but quickly became outdated and he lacked the motivation and time to rebuild it.

Our team took a look at his website and found a range of flaws but also some positive aspects which we noted down. One of the biggest flaws was that his website had no mobile version and couldn’t be displayed properly on a smaller screen. Since he captured and displayed such large and high quality images, they weren’t being displayed to their full potential.

After some back and forth conversations, Daniell decided to jump on board with Builtflat. We compiled a list of changes that Daniell wanted us to make and a list of changes we recommended to add. Once Daniell was happy with the project direction, we began working on the design.

Our approach to the research & design.

We approached this project like we would with any other project, and that was to see what the client already has. In this instance Daniell already had plenty of high quality images at his disposal that we could use during the design stage. Daniell also had an amazing insight into his audience and the text he used on his previous website communicated that, so the decision to maintain similar copywriting was the best option.

We then looked at the overall colour scheme for the website. We felt a dark theme would work in sync with his imagery which would really make it stand out and pop as they contained a range of vibrant colours. Daniell was more than happy with the decision to avoid using a light theme for this project.

Now what do we do with all these beautiful images Daniell’s taken? We blow them up, sizing them perfectly to fit any screen while making them the outstanding focus point of his website. An example of this is in the header of the home page. Here we see the King of the jungle, a strong and confronting image of a lion which we’ve accompanied with a stronger font to compliment the image.

We followed up by adding a simple 3 column layout imagery gallery filled with his most recent wildlife shots. To save Daniell time and since he was a big Instagram user, we linked this to his Instagram account so any new photo he uploaded to his Instagram showed up here too.

Daniells overall goal here was to showcase animals around the world and educate his audience in the best way he could. It was an easy decision to use his photography as the strongest asset for this project, which we made sure every single page had and used them to their full potential. Each image, purposefully placed to ensure the viewer had a clear idea of what page they were on, and to give them a stunning and informative visual experience of the animal keeping in line with Daniells goals.
